Composition v2

- MOVEMENT -

- EMPHASIS -

For my re-do of the composition assignment, I decided to use Movement and Emphasis. For Movement (The first photo), I used my roommate as a subject and told her to move however she wanted to three spots around our tiny room. I liked how the the three figures overlapped and how it not only showed the process of my roommate moving, but that it also made your eye move aroun the photo trying to follow her actions. As a result, the photo looks very busy and shows a lot of action. For the second photo, I used Emphasis because I thought that unlike movement, emphasis made your eye stay in one place in the photo instead of creating several points of interest. I zoomed in on my roommate's face so that there was no way you could stare at anything else in the photo, but far enough sso that there was some negative space in the photo. For me, the photo ended up feeling very intimate and human because her eyes are looking right at you and you are drawn to them.

First Post!

For my assignment on the principles of composition I chose a matryoshka doll as my subject with "balance" as my principle. Maybe it's sort of cheating, since we were only supposed to use one subject, but the dolls are all different components of one big doll, and I didn't think it was right to use one without photographing all of them. I thought it would be a perfect object for this principle of composition since every doll becomes proportionally smaller than the other, and that already creates a lot of balance. I used all the dolls as one subject to emphazsize that balance.
